Using an annular cutter still isn’t considered to be the norm, especially when you are talking in-home machinery. Using a metal hole saw has been the standard for some time because most people didn’t want to spend the money on magnetic drills or larger pieces of equipment.

A reamer is a drill bit that is used to shape or enlarge holes. Now, there are many different kinds of reamers. There are the adjustable hand reamers, the straight reamer, the machine reamer, the rose reamer, the shell reamer, the tapered reamer, the Morris taper reamer and the combination reamer.

Unlike the step drill bit which has a very limited thickness into which it is capable of drilling, the metal hole saw can cut holes six inches in diameter and up to three inches of depth.

A tap and die set is very easy to use and although primarily used with metal, a tap and die can be used on other materials as well. However, if you are working with concrete it is advised that you use masonry drill bits instead as they are more successful with concrete.

There is some confusion about the role that reamers play when it comes to creating a hole. Those with very little idea about DIY and power tools mistake it for a normal drill bit and believe it can produce the same results.
